Cydome, a vendor of maritime and critical infrastructure cybersecurity, has introduced Cydome Embedded for Remote Energy Facilities. This new deployment option delivers comprehensive cyber protection directly on existing VSAT routers and network edge devices, enabling advanced cybersecurity for offshore wind farms without requiring physical access to the site.
Offshore and renewable energy operators face mounting pressure to protect assets that are physically difficult to access. Cydome Embedded is the first solution to use advanced edge computing, providing zero-touch security as an embedded virtual container optimized for resource-constrained devices. The software is fully installed and maintained remotely, eliminating the need for technician visits in rough waters.
The offshore wind sector is expanding rapidly, with Europe operating approximately 135 wind farms with over 6,000 turbines. Yet according to Cyber Energia, only 1% of 11,000 wind assets globally have adequate cyber protection, while Trustwave reports an 80% increase in ransomware attacks on energy and utilities in 2025.
The economics of protection have been prohibitive. Sending a technician for on-site installation can cost up to $200,000, including vessel rental. A single day of downtime for a 10MW turbine results in $15,000 to $30,000 in lost revenue. Existing solutions require physical access, making it challenging to protect wind farms with dozens of dispersed turbines.
Based on Cydome’s class-certified (ClassNK, RINA) platform deployed on hundreds of vessels and offshore facilities, Cydome Embedded provides AI-driven threat detection, network security, vulnerability scanning, and centralized risk management across IT and OT environments.
“Existing cybersecurity solutions assume you can send technicians to install hardware. We have achieved a technological breakthrough that delivers full protection on existing hardware with minimal computing power, enabling operators to secure remote assets without physical access,” said Nir Ayalon, founder and CEO of Cydome.
Cydome Embedded is generally available and supports routers from Peplink, Speedcast, and others.
Last July, Cydome launched a free cyber-incident reporting tool, coinciding with the introduction of new federal enforcement rules for U.S. maritime operators. With U.S. Coast Guard regulations now in effect as of July 16, shipowners and offshore operators are required to report cyber incidents, marking the start of a more aggressive regulatory posture. By simply registering, Cydome’s tool aims to give operators immediate compliance support as they become federally required to report cyber incidents under U.S. law. Thus, providing an immediate, accessible way to meet these compliance demands and avoid potential penalties.
