IDB Group to open Miami office

In a win for Miami, the Inter-American Development Bank Group, better known as the IDB, has  opened its first office in the United States outside Washington, D.C., and it’s in Miami. The move also  brings to Miami the first multilateral development bank with a mission to advance private-sector-led development and connect global investors with opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

As Miami is the gateway to Latin America, the move makes sense on many levels. Miami is also a major financial and corporate hub, home to more than 1,600 multinational companies and over 60 international banks, with a growing venture capital and technology ecosystem. The IDB’s new Miami office, which will focus on private investment, could benefit entrepreneurs building companies in South Florida and looking for capital as well as Miami-based companies seeking to grow in Latin America, the Miami Herald reported.

“Miami is where investors are, where decisions are made, and where deals are structured.  By being here, we can bring investment into Latin America and the Caribbean and also bring opportunities from the region to global investors – scaling private-sector-led development on both sides,” said IDB Group President Ilan Goldfajn, in a statement.

Goldfajn says the Miami office – which will be in the Wells Fargo Center in Downtown Miami – will deepen engagement with investors and partners, strengthen co-financing and mobilization, and support the structuring of projects across key sectors. It will also support IDB Invest and IDB Lab in expanding business development and bringing investment into Latin America and the Caribbean. Read more here.

Myosin Therapeutics awarded $2M grant

Myosin Therapeutics has been awarded $2 million in funding from the Florida Department of Health through the Casey DeSantis Florida Cancer Innovation Fund to support the company’s STAR-GBM Phase 1/2 clinical trial evaluating MT-125 in patients newly diagnosed with glioblastoma.

The FCIF is a statewide initiative designed to accelerate the development of innovative cancer therapies and strengthen the life sciences ecosystem in Florida by supporting promising research programs and emerging biotechnology companies. Myosin Therapeutics, headquartered in Jupiter, was selected for funding based on the scientific innovation and clinical potential of MT-125, the company’s lead oncology therapeutic candidate.

“This funding helps support the continued progress of our trial and reflects the growing strength of Florida’s life sciences community in advancing innovative cancer therapies,” Myosin co-founder and CEO Courtney Miller said in a statement.

MT-125 is being developed for several treatment-resistant cancers, including acute myeloid leukemia and pancreatic cancer. It has received Orphan Drug Designation for malignant gliomas and Fast Track Designation for glioblastoma, supporting an accelerated regulatory pathway for therapies addressing serious diseases with significant unmet medical need.

Glioblastoma is a form of cancer that affects the brain and spinal cord. The average survival time for patients diagnosed with glioblastoma is between 12 to 18 months, with only about 5% surviving more than five years.

Last year, Myosin raised $3 million in seed funding.
