Stocks in mainland China and Hong Kong moved higher on Wednesday, according to a report from the South China Morning Post. The gains followed positive overnight performance on Wall Street and were supported by a decline in oil prices.

The Hang Seng Index increased by one percent during morning trading, building on its advance from the previous session. Major mainland indices also traded higher, with the CSI 300 and the Shanghai Composite Index each rising by 0.4 percent. The ChiNext Index saw a more modest gain after briefly reaching a multi-year peak earlier in the session.

This positive market activity coincided with a drop in Brent crude oil prices. Investor confidence appeared to be bolstered by expectations of a potential reduction in Middle East tensions. Market participants are anticipating another round of discussions between the United States and Iran in the near term, which could alleviate pressure on energy costs and global inflation. However, concerns persist regarding key shipping routes ahead of a scheduled ceasefire date.
