HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito visited Huntington Wednesday to tour the future site of Marshall University’s Institute for Cyber Security.
The $45 million facility, which will feature 13 laboratories and serve as a gateway to the I.D.E.A. District, is currently under construction.
“To hear how this is going to be filled with students and private entities really working for the safety and cybersecurity safety of the county in critical infrastructure is very exciting,” Capito said. “I think this is going to be ground zero for that.”
The senator said $29 million in federal funds were secured for the effort.
“A good idea is well worth funding, to grow the workforce in cybersecurity,” she said. “This is where we’re going. We’re growing the jobs of tomorrow.”
Construction at the corner of Hal Greer Boulevard and Fourth Avenue is expected to wrap up in 2026.
