The leader of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Jens Spahn, told DW that Ukraine peace efforts must see the country’s sovereignty upheld and name Russia as the aggressor. “Putin is not willing to have peace,” Spahn said, adding that recent diplomatic efforts have been accompanied by intensified attacks on Kyiv.
Domestically, Spahn defended the stability of Germany’s current government, calling it “very much stable” despite inner-coaliton tensions. He described Germany as a political anchor in Europe, especially compared to challenges faced in France and Poland.
