    Cyber fraud victim ends life in Jhansi

    Jhansi: The body of a 29-year-old woman who mysteriously went missing a few days ago was recovered from the Betwa River here on Saturday. During investigation, it emerged that she fell victim to a cyber fraud, losing her money, which led her to depression.The incident was reported from the Barua Sagar area of the district. The victim, Bhawna Pal, suddenly went missing on Tuesday. Her husband, Sher Singh, who runs a dhaba, saw her leaving the house with a small container of water, which she usually took when going to the temple.When she didn’t return after a long time, the family members approached the police. During the scanning of CCTV footage, she was found near the bus stand, with no further whereabouts.In the meantime, it was revealed that Bhawna, who wanted to do some work to increase her family income, came across an advertisement on social media from a pencil company inviting people for packaging work from home while promising a good monthly income.Bhawna contacted the alleged company officials, who took money from her amounting to around Rs 35,000 in the name of registration and security deposit. She paid the money after borrowing it from her relatives.Later, she learned that it was a scam as after the people she was in contact with online suddenly vanished.As a result, Bhawna went into depression and took the extreme step. On Saturday, her body was found floating in the river. Station officer Barua Sagar Rahul Rathore said that the body of the victim was handed over to the family members after a postmortem. They are further investigating the matter.Bhawna, who originally belonged to Jhansi, was married in 2023 and had a 14-month-old son.
