Nintendo has launched an official Nintendo Store app for iOS and Android devices, expanding a service that was previously only available in Japan. The app, which first launched in Japan five years ago as the “My Nintendo” app, is now available under the new “Nintendo Store” name in the US, UK, Canada, and most of Europe.
The new app allows users to browse and shop for Nintendo hardware, including Switch 2 and original Switch consoles, accessories, merchandise, and both physical and digital games. According to the store listings, the app does not process purchases in-app; instead, selecting a product opens the item’s page in the device’s default web browser for checkout.
A Nintendo account is required to access some of the app’s key features, including a detailed log of historical gaming activity. This section shows users what games they have played, when they played them, and for how long. The data includes activity from the Switch, Switch 2, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U, although play data for the 3DS and Wii U is only shown up to February 2020. This play history was previously only accessible to users through Nintendo’s parental controls system.
Other features of the app include a news feed for Nintendo games and events, push notifications for when items on a user’s wish list go on sale, and the ability to earn rewards by using the app to check in at official Nintendo stores or events.
