Cyber fraudsters nabbed, theft & arms rackets busted in Pkl

Panchkula: Panchkula police have arrested six persons in two separate operations under Operation Trackdown, targetingcyber fraudand organised crime. In the first operation, the cybercrime police arrested three fraudsters involved in two major scams.Digital Arrest FraudA Panchkula resident, Sajjan Kumar, was duped of Rs 5.9 lakh after receiving a call from a person posing as a Hyderabad Police officer. The caller falsely linked Kumar to a money-laundering case tied to terrorism and threatened arrest. Acting on the Oct 9 complaint, police arrested Sonu of Saini Mohalla, Kharkhoda (Sonipat) on Nov 7. He was remanded to two days’ police custody.Stock Market Scam Another resident, Mohammad Suleman, lost Rs 33.56 lakh in a fake stock investment scheme.He was added to a WhatsApp group promising high returns and directed to a bogus Mumbai address and website. Police arrested two accused from Gujarat on Oct 7 — Mukund Kumar (46) of Ahmedabad and Patel Maithali Naveenbhai (25) of Surat. Both were remanded for one day.Gang Behind Shop Thefts and Illegal ArmsIn the second operation, police busted a gang involved in eight shop thefts and arrested three individuals, including a juvenile, for supplying illegal weapons.Acting on a Nov 4 complaint, Chandimandir police analysed CCTV footage and arrested Saleem alias Sonu (34) of Rajpura, Anwar alias Guri (34), and Avinash alias Makkhi (19) of Derabassi. They confessed to five shop thefts in Panchkula and three in Dhakoli (Punjab). A Swift car used in the crimes was seized. On Nov 5, Crime Branch-26 arrested Suraj, a taxi driver from Uttarakhand, with a countrymade pistol. On Nov 7, Ajay alias Bittu (26) of Mohali was caught with a gun and four cartridges. Both were booked under the Arms Act. A juvenile from Sector 14 was also apprehended on Nov 6 with a gun and one cartridge.
