Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and China’s top diplomat Wang Yi held what both sides described as “constructive” discussions in Beijing, focusing on international trade, UN reform, and global sustainability. The talks also touched on the conflict in Gaza, with both countries supporting a permanent ceasefire and greater backing for the Palestinian Authority.
During his two-day visit to China, Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, where the two officials exchanged views on multilateral trade, UN reform, and environmental cooperation. Eide described the dialogue as “productive and forward-looking,” emphasizing the importance of maintaining a rules-based global trading system and stronger cooperation on climate issues.
According to China’s state-run Xinhua News, Wang Yi reaffirmed that Beijing views Norway as a “reliable and steady partner” in Europe. He encouraged Oslo to continue pursuing what he called a “pragmatic and rational” policy toward China. Wang added that both sides should resist economic decoupling and work together to protect supply chains while promoting a fairer international order.
The two foreign ministers also discussed the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. They jointly expressed the need for a “comprehensive and lasting ceasefire” and called for stronger support to the Palestinian National Authority to improve governance and regional stability. The statement reflects growing international concern about the crisis and the need for coordinated diplomatic solutions — a stance Türkiye has consistently supported.
On the same day, Eide also met with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, who called for deepened collaboration in economic and environmental fields, particularly in renewable energy and the fight against climate change. Both governments agreed that dialogue and practical cooperation remain key to addressing global challenges and maintaining international stability.
