    Arizona school district looses $580,000 to scammers

    The school district is actively working to recover the lost funds.

    COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. — A school district in northern Arizona is notifying state authorities of an alleged “cybercrime” that resulted in the district losing over half a million dollars.

    The Flagstaff Unified School District recently announced that it had fallen victim to a fraud that resulted in the loss of $580,000. The incident has been reported to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, the auditor general, county treasurer and the Arizona School Risk Retention and Trust.

    FUSD is actively working to recover the lost funds and the matter remains under investigation. District officials said they’re unable to provide further details on the cyber scheme at this time.

    FUSD is home to over 8,600 students and 15 school sites.
