Covering the Cost: Cybersecurity firm Cypac discusses protecting your money from cybercriminals

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Online crime cost Hawaii residents more than $55 million in 2024, and that is expected to grow 30% in 2025, as cyber criminals adjust their tactics and use more AI in fraud schemes.

Annalisa Burgos is covering the cost with Hawaii-based cybersecurity firm Cypac president Attila Seres and senior tech Matthew Kent.

Cypac is a Hawaii-based cybersecurity firm that works closely with local businesses to reduce cyber risk, detect threats and respond quickly to incidents.

Seres and Kent say there’s been a steady rise in cyber incidents affecting everyday people and organizations across Hawaii, including email scams, ransomware, fake invoices, and account takeovers that often start with a single click.

In this podcast, they share horror stories from everyday people who were victimized, offer tips for spotting common email and text scams and what to do if an account is compromised, and outline steps for protecting families and small businesses.
