The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, in partnership with Starz University, has announced the launch of a major Cybersecurity Awareness Session and 24-hour Capture The Flag (CTF) Hackathon, a dynamic initiative designed to equip Liberian students with practical cybersecurity skills and real-world experience in digital defense.
The event aims to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application by immersing participants in hands-on cybersecurity challenges that mirror real-life threats faced by governments and industries. Through this initiative, students will engage in digital defense, ethical hacking, encryption, cyber forensics, and incident response, while competing in an intense 24-hour hacking marathon that fosters teamwork, innovation, and technical excellence.
The Ministry described the program as a bold step toward advancing cybersecurity awareness, promoting digital literacy, and empowering Liberia’s youth to become leaders in the digital age. By collaborating with Starz University, one of Liberia’s premier technology institutions, the Ministry aims to create a platform that cultivates local talent, strengthens the nation’s cyber resilience, and enhances its digital ecosystem.
Participants in the hackathon will not only test their problem-solving skills but also benefit from interactive sessions with cybersecurity experts, who will share insights and global best practices in digital protection and risk management. The program also provides opportunities for networking, mentorship, and recognition, with prizes awarded to the top-performing teams and individuals.
According to the Ministry, the 24-hour CTF Hackathon reflects Liberia’s growing commitment to building a secure and inclusive digital future, where youth play a central role in safeguarding national and organizational infrastructure. The event underscores the government’s broader digital strategy—centered on innovation, capacity development, and cybersecurity preparedness.
The hackathon will take place at the Starz University Campus and promises 24 hours of non-stop cyber action, uniting students, professionals, and enthusiasts in a shared mission to strengthen Liberia’s defenses against evolving cyber threats.
By combining education, innovation, and competition, the Ministry and Starz University are inspiring the next generation of cybersecurity leaders and positioning Liberia as a proactive player in Africa’s digital transformation.
