Lucknow: In a major push to curbcyber fraudthrough public awareness, the UP Police produced a powerful cyber awareness short film featuring veteran actorNana Patekar, officials said on Tuesday. The initiative followed clear directions issued by CM Yogi Adityanath to ensure effective prevention of cybercrimes across the state.Acting on these instructions, DGP Rajeev Krishna placed cybercrime control and public awareness among the top operational priorities of the force.Under the DGP’s guidance, the UP Police ran a sustained, state-wide cyber awareness campaign. Notably, Rajeev Krishna participated online in 11 zone-level cyber awareness workshops, directly engaging with over 1 lakh people across more than 25 districts. These sessions targeted students, general citizens, public representatives, traders, and other social groups, educating them about emerging cyber fraud techniques, precautionary measures, and digital safety practices. As part of this outreach, the police released an impactful short film aimed at alerting citizens to “digital arrest” scams. The film was inspired by a real-life incident reported in Kanpur, where an alert citizen successfully thwarted an attempt at cyber fraud by using presence of mind and refusing to fall for intimidation tactics. In the film, Nana Patekar played the role of a vigilant citizen, while actress Leena Sharma portrayed his wife.Actor Kishore Soni appeared as a fake “cyber inspector” attempting to extort money, whereas Adil Irani played the role of a genuine police inspector. The short film was directed by noted filmmaker Raj Shandilya, known for directing popular Bollywood hits Dream Girl and Dream Girl 2.
