External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a significant impact at the 20th East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur by delivering India’s National Statement. He drew attention to escalating uncertainties in supply chains, energy trade, and market access, while underscoring the importance of embracing multipolarity and maintaining a stance of zero tolerance against terrorism.
Highlighting the global issues of unreliable supply chains and distorted energy markets, Jaishankar spoke about the fierce competition in technology and natural resources. He pointed out various global conflicts causing food and energy insecurity and trade disruptions. The Minister stressed the necessity for international conversations to adapt to the growing multipolar world.
Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s dedication to regional cooperation, proposing an EAS Maritime Heritage Festival in Gujarat and announcing the ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation for 2026. He also held key bilateral meetings with leaders from Brunei, Brazil, Vietnam, Japan, and Malaysia, discussing strategic partnerships and bilateral relations, reflecting a commitment to regional peace and development.
