Pope Leo XIV has warned that conflicts at the global level endangering humanity.
“We are now experiencing a phase marked by heightened level of conflict on the global level, fueled by prevailing strategies of economic and military power.
“This is enabling what Pope Francis called a Third World War fought piecemeal,” he said at an assembly at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, Turkey.
This is his first foreign trip, a six-day trip to Turkey and Lebanon.
The pope pointed out that the world order are being destabilised by “ambitions and choices that trample on justice and peace”, CNN reported.
We must in no way give in to this. The future of humanity is at stake,” said the first American pope.
Both Turkey and Lebanon are Muslim majority nations that are home to ancient Christian communities.
Turkey is also home to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew – the spiritual head of the Eastern Orthodox Church who has his headquarters in Istanbul.
