WORLD OIL PRICES
Oil rose for a second straight session on Thursday after the U.S. seized a sanctioned oil tanker off Venezuela’s coast, escalating tensions between the two countries and raising concern over further supply disruptions.

The South African rand edged up on Wednesday, following the release of domestic retail sales data as investors awaited a U.S. Federal Reserve policy meeting later in the day.
KENYA MARKETS
Kenya’s central bank reduced its benchmark lending rate (KECBIR=ECI) by 25 basis points to 9.0% on Tuesday, its ninth rate cut in a row as it tries to stimulate bank lending and support economic growth.
UGANDA LESOTHO USA HEALTH
The U.S. has signed five-year health cooperation agreements with Uganda and Lesotho, the U.S. State Department said on Wednesday.
ETHIOPIA ECONOMY
The International Monetary Fund said on Wednesday it had reached a staff-level agreement with Ethiopia on the fourth review of a $3.4 billion lending programme, paving the way for the next disbursement of $261 million once the Fund’s board signs off.
DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO SECURITY
Rwanda-backed M23 rebels have entered the eastern Congo town of Uvira, near the Burundian border, in the biggest escalation in months of the long-running war, sources told Reuters on Wednesday.
GHANA ECONOMY
Ghana’s economy expanded by 5.5% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2025, driven by an improvement in the agriculture and services sectors, the statistics agency said on Wednesday.
GUINEA-BISSAU POLITICS
Guinea-Bissau’s military junta adopted a 12-month transitional charter that bars the interim president and prime minister from running in the next elections, two weeks after officers staged a coup that suspended the constitution.
