Financial markets worldwide experienced significant volatility recently. The World Gold Council noted that investor sentiment was influenced by heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Economic indicators from major regions showed signs of increasing inflation paired with slowing activity. In the United States, inflation moved higher while services and factory orders showed weakness. European growth also moderated. In Asia, producer prices increased in China, and India’s central bank maintained interest rates but revised its inflation projection upward.

Notwithstanding the uncertain climate, global stock markets advanced. Yields on U.S. government debt saw little change, and the dollar lost some strength. The price of oil, after an initial drop, increased sharply, with Brent Crude rising approximately eight percent. This movement heightened worries about stagflation and pressure on consumers.

Within this environment, the price of gold moved higher as market participants turned to traditional safe-haven assets. The LBMA Gold Price PM climbed 2.9% to $4,774 per ounce, pushing its year-to-date gains above 9%. Ongoing geopolitical risks have supported interest in gold exchange-traded funds and positive market positioning, maintaining the metal’s attractiveness amid continued market swings.
