WELLSBURG — Almost Heaven Family Dentistry has announced the addition of the Eccovision Acoustic Diagnostic Imaging System, featuring the acoustic pharyngometer and acoustic rhinometer, for the official launch of its new dental sleep medicine program.

This technology allows the practice to provide advanced, non-invasive airway evaluations and customized treatments for patients suffering from sleep disordered breathing, such as snoring, upper airway resistance syndrome and obstructive sleep apnea.

The dental sleep medicine program focuses on the use of oral appliance therapy to treat sleep-related breathing disorders. With the addition of this cutting-edge acoustic imaging technology, Almost Heaven Family Dentistry can now measure airway size and function in the throat and nasal passages, which helps identify areas of restriction that may contribute to snoring and OSA.

The acoustic pharyngometer and rhinometer use sound wave reflection to create precise, real-time measurements of airway dimensions and collapsability. The quick test is comfortable and requires only seconds to perform, providing detailed graphical data that assists clinicians in screening patients, evaluating airway health and monitoring treatment outcomes.

“Sleep-disordered breathing affects millions of Americans, many of whom remain undiagnosed,” said Dr. Olivia Mason. “By integrating advanced airway diagnostics into our practice, we can better identify at-risk patients and provide personalized oral appliance therapy that improves sleep quality, overall health and quality of life. This technology allows us to know the best posture for each patient’s unique airway to allow for maximum air flow.”

Dr. Tess Ferrari went on to say, “Studies show obstructive sleep apnea has been linked to serious health concerns, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, fatigue-related accidents and decreased cognitive performance. Dental Sleep Medicine offers a comfortable alternative for patients who cannot tolerate CPAP therapy or are seeking additional treatment options.”

With this new program, the dentistry now offers comprehensive airway screening and evaluation, collaboration with physicians and sleep specialists, custom oral appliance therapy for snoring and mild to moderate OSA and ongoing monitoring of airway changes and treatment effectiveness.
