Omantel Unveils Otech as Unified Technology Arm Supporting Digital Economy

As part of national efforts to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen the foundations of an integrated digital economy, Omantel has launched Otech, a new entity positioned as a provider of future technologies and an enabler of digital transformation. The launch, which took place on Wednesday, 11 February, also included the announcement of several strategic partnerships, highlighting the breadth of Otech’s ecosystem and the expansion of its operational scope.

The launch ceremony was held under the patronage of H.E. Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al-Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority, at the Royal Opera House Muscat. The event was attended by representatives from both the public and private sectors, as well as technology specialists and digital transformation experts.

H.E. Mulham bin Bashir Al-Jarf, Deputy President for Investment at the Oman Investment Authority and Chairman of Omantel’s Board of Directors, said the launch of Otech consolidates Omantel’s position as an integrated digital technology company. He noted that it reflects a deliberate strategic shift from a traditional telecommunications operator to a modern technology-driven model that promotes innovation and enables the digital economy.

Al-Jarf explained that this transformation aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, particularly the digital economy pillar and the development of knowledge- and technology-based sectors. He added that Omantel’s strategy views digital transformation as an integrated ecosystem encompassing infrastructure modernisation, digital solutions, national capability building, new business models, cross-sector integration and sustainable economic value creation.

He further emphasised that Omani citizens are central to this vision, describing national talent as the true driver of transformation and sustainability. Omantel, he said, is investing in training and developing local capabilities in advanced fields such as digital solutions, cybersecurity, cloud computing and artificial intelligence, in line with rapid global technological advancements.

Eng. Aladdin bin Abdullah Baitfadhil, Chief Executive Officer of Omantel and Chairman of Otech, said the launch represents a qualitative shift in both the company’s journey and Oman’s digital sector. He noted that by establishing a unified technology ecosystem, Omantel is laying the groundwork for a new phase focused on innovation and competitiveness, supporting national priorities for economic diversification and the development of a knowledge-based economy.

Baitfadhil added that Otech will play a central role in enabling the digital economy, a key pillar of Oman Vision 2040, by empowering stakeholders to adopt and develop future technologies with confidence. This, he said, will strengthen long-term resilience and reinforce Oman’s regional and global digital presence.

Eng. Maqbool bin Salem Al-Wuhaibi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Otech, highlighted the integration of Oman Data Park into the Otech ecosystem as a major leap in digital infrastructure development. He said the company will leverage its expertise in data centres and sovereign cloud services to support both public and private institutions, while accelerating digital transformation and strengthening data localisation within Oman.

During the ceremony, Omantel announced a series of strategic partnerships that underscore the diversity of the Otech ecosystem. These include collaborations with Oracle through Oracle Alloy for hyperscale computing, PwC for cybersecurity capability development, and Nagarro for systems integration in emerging technologies. Additional partnerships were announced with Palo Alto Networks via Unit 42, Fortinet, and Nama Shared Services, alongside collaborations with Omani startups including Orki, Decoil and Remedy.

The launch of Otech comes amid strong growth in the ICT services market, driven by government digital transformation initiatives and the expansion of the digital economy. This momentum supports Oman Vision 2040’s goal of building a diversified economy based on innovation, knowledge and advanced technologies.

As part of strengthening digital sovereignty, Otech also launched the Farq Data Centre, designed to provide a secure, resilient and scalable environment for mission-critical systems. Otech now operates the most diverse cloud ecosystem in Oman and is the first in the Middle East to receive Amazon Web Services accreditation for sovereign cloud services, reinforcing its technical readiness and regional leadership.

Through a growing network of local and international partnerships, Otech aims to localise future technologies, transfer knowledge, build national capabilities and open new regional and global markets for Omani technology solutions.
