WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – The Warren County Sheriff’s Office says a cyber incident has impacted some of its employees and their family members.

On Thursday, the agency shared a release stating that on March 5, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office mailed notification letters to four individuals regarding the incident.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office further states it provided the following media notice as required by Kentucky law:

“On December 20, 2025, the WCSO detected suspicious activity on its computer network. The WCSO immediately launched an investigation with assistance from nationally recognized cybersecurity and data forensics consultants to secure its network and investigate the scope of the incident. The WCSO also alerted federal law enforcement. As part of its ongoing investigation, the WCSO determined that cyber criminals accessed its network, copied and then removed some data from its network. The WCSO then reviewed the impacted data to determine: (1) what information was involved and (2) who may have been affected. The affected personal information varies by individual and includes name, social security number, driver’s license number, and health insurance identification number. The notification letters mailed by the WCSO include free resources for individuals who wish to take further steps to protect their personal information, including contact information for the credit reporting agencies, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Kentucky Attorney General. That information is available below.”

The WCSO says it is monitoring its systems, data and network access.

In addition, the WCSO says it is “evaluating and making changes to strengthen its network against any future incidents.”

“The privacy and security of the information we maintain is very important to us, and we remain committed to doing everything we can to maintain the confidentiality of such information,” sheriff Brett Hightower said. “The WCSO will continue to invest in the internal processes, tools, and resources to reduce the likelihood of future security incidents.”
