The observation was made that current investor apprehension has shifted from concerns about an artificial intelligence bubble to a fear of becoming obsolete due to AI’s influence.

The author emphasized that investment outcomes for new technologies vary significantly. Historical examples show that some technologies proved to be sound long-term investments, while others, like British canals in a prior century, resulted in major losses for investors after being superseded. This variability suggests investors should exercise careful judgment regarding current technology leaders.

The report includes a visual comparison of U.S. stock market industry compositions from 1900 to the present. It reveals that approximately 80% of the market value from firms listed in 1900 was concentrated in industries that are now minor or extinct, such as railroads and textiles.
