WINONA, Minn. (WXOW) – Winona County officials report that cyber criminals have released information acquired from the county’s network in a recent cyber attack.
As reported, Winona County experienced a cyber attack beginning on Monday, April 6, and continuing into Tuesday. County officials clarify it was a ransomware attack.
The county learned this week that the perpetrators of the attack have released information they acquired in the ransomware attack. Officials are reviewing the information released and will notify individuals whose personal information is involved as soon as possible and in accordance with applicable law.
They will also provide resources to those affected on how to protect the personal information.
“We take this very seriously and will be doing a comprehensive review of this information with the assistance of law enforcement and our third-party cyber security partners to determine what and whose information is potentially involved,” said County Administrator Maureen Holte in a press release.
County offices remain open for business.
