Peace is very expensive, let’s protect our nation,
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia needs to immediately strengthen its economic foundations, reduce the impact of global conflicts on the national economy, President Prabowo Subianto stressed.
He referred to conflicts in Ukraina, Gaza and the rising tensions in the Middle East from the US-Iran war, which have triggered price spikes for food and energy commodities in the domestic market.
“What happens in distant parts of the world affects us. What happens in Ukraine affects us, it affects the price of corn, wheat and oil,” Prabowo said on the sidelines of the launch of downstreaming projects in Cilacap, Central Java, as monitored from Jakarta on Wednesday.
To anticipate further impacts, he called on the community to work together to maintain peace so Indonesia does not become a country devastated by war such as Lebanon, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen and Afghanistan.
“Peace is very expensive, let’s protect our nation,” Prabowo emphasized.
According to him, nationalism and unity are the main shields against major world powers or hegemons that seek to dominate the natural resources of other nations.
He believes that a nation that lacks the courage to manage its own natural resources will continue to be trapped in poverty and dependence on the global trade chain.
Therefore, the government prioritizes downstreaming program to ensure that the added value of natural resources can be fully managed and delivered for the welfare of the Indonesian people.
The Indonesian President also invited technocrats, scientists and industries to work together to maintain national economic sovereignty amidst the threat of increasingly complex global uncertainty.
“Now is the time for technocrats, now is the time for scientists, now is the time for engineers, professors:… to become professors who defend the people, to become engineers for the nation and the people,” he emphasized.
