Uzbek President Flags Rising Freight Costs Linked to Global Conflicts
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has said that global conflicts are significantly increasing logistics costs for Central Asian countries, pushing freight expenses up by around 30% and delaying deliveries by several weeks.
Speaking on regional transport challenges, Mirziyoyev highlighted that disruptions in global supply chains are placing additional pressure on landlocked economies that rely heavily on cross-border transit routes, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
He noted that the planned China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway could become a key solution, reducing cargo delivery times to about 10 days and increasing annual freight capacity to up to 15 million tons.
To further improve efficiency, the Uzbek president proposed the creation of a “Digital Customs and Logistics Alliance,” aimed at harmonizing customs procedures, digitizing documentation, and simplifying cross-border cargo movement.
