[DUBUQUE, Iowa] — Dubuque is working on a plan to update its parking meters with new technology.
The city has more than 1,800 parking meters, and street parking can be difficult. The Smart Parking and Mobility Plan aims to change that.
The proposal sent to city council would make it easier for payment, mobility and the overall parking experience. Transportation Services Director Ryan Knuckey explained why the city decided to move forward with the plan.
“This project came to be because the city of Dubuque does have an outdated parking system, with that city council made the joint effort to fund us redoing the downtown parking,” Knuckey said.
The updates would affect ramps, parking lots and meters. The plan has been in development for five years.
